What is the best age for a child to start swimming lessons?
There is no definitive answer, as each child develops differently. However, most experts agree that it is never too early to start! Even babies can benefit from simple water exposure and swimming activities.
How many lessons does it take for a child to learn to swim?
It varies from child to child, but generally, it takes around 4-6 lessons for a child to be confident and proficient in the water.
At what age should kids stop taking swimming lessons?
Again, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some children may enjoy and benefit from swimming lessons well into their teenage years, while others may lose interest after a few years. Ultimately, it is up to the parents and child to decide when to stop.
What can I teach my 4 year old swimming?
In our “Parent and Tot” classes, we focus on teaching your child the following:
– How to be safe around water
– How to enter and exit the pool safely
– How to blow bubbles
– How to float on their front and back
– How to kick their legs
– How to move their arms in a swimming motion
How often should kids take swimming lessons?
Ideally, swimming lessons should be taken regularly to see the most progress. However, we understand that life can be hectic, and sometimes weekly lessons are not possible. In this case, we recommend taking lessons at least 2-3 times per month.
How long are kids’ swimming lessons in Ottowa?
Most swimming lesson programs for children range from 30 minutes to 1 hour in length. Some private or semi-private lessons may be longer.
Will my child be safe in swimming lessons?
Yes! Safety is always our top priority. All of our instructors are certified lifeguards and have extensive experience working with children. We also maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio to ensure that each child gets the attention they need.
What should my child wear to swimming lessons?
For most swimming lesson programs, children should wear a bathing suit and swim diaper (if necessary). Swim caps and goggles are optional but may be worn if desired.

Parent and Tot Swim Lessons in Ottawa:
Introduce your youngster to the water in a secure and enjoyable manner! Our child-focused program is the first of its kind in Canada, intended to teach tiny swimmers how to submerge, control their breath, kick on both sides, and swim underwater.
Let your little one take a dip in our heated, salt-water pool as they discover the pleasures of swimming. To develop confidence in and around the pool, we recommend that you start your infant at four months old.
Children then graduate to our Swim 101 program.
Kids Lessons | Swim 101
In our Swim 101 courses, we teach your kid to swim on their own by laying the foundation for it. They’ll learn things like self-submersion and breath control, front and back kicks, and freestyle swimming with their face in the water.
We use a Power Swimr to help foster confidence in the water for our Swim 101 kids under the age of 6: a young child who is afraid is unlikely to learn properly! To provide just enough support for your child to take those leaps of faith, this device adapts to their skill level by removing foam layers until they are appropriate.
When children can swim 15 meters without using a floatation device and breathe as needed, they enter into Swim Strokes 201.
Kids Lessons | Swim Strokes 201
Swimming with the help of Swim Strokes 201 helps your youngster from novice to advanced swimmer. This lesson includes flutter kick, which includes arm movement backstroke and freestyle (front crawl) with side breathing, as well as basic skills that will assist them in future competitive or long-distance swimming.
When children can swim 20m freestyle with side breathing and 20m backstroke unassisted, they advance to Advanced Swim Strokes 301.
Kids Lessons | Advanced Swim Strokes 301
Swim with confidence! Your child will learn the skills necessary for competitive swimming or lifeguard training utilizing Swim With Confidence’s 300-Hour Advanced Swim Strokes 301 course. Through exact teaching and specialized drills, students develop the muscular memory needed to master these sophisticated strokes. We also focus on improving freestyle and backstroke. The breathing, confidence, and safety skills they learn in this class are essential for success in any future swimming endeavors.
This program is designed for children who can swim an 80m individual medley that includes 20m of each stroke: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Kids Lessons | Competitive Swim 101
Your child will be prepared for a competitive swim team with our Competitive Swim 101 class. Your youngster will acquire the endurance and learn the pace needed for long-distance swimming using specific training methods. The four most fundamental skills we concentrate on are all of the major strokes, as well as how to turn in the pool.
